Assembly Speaker Rob Rivas Endorses Sam Liccardo
Assemblymember Evan Low’s Leader Picks Opponent
SAN JOSE, CA — Today, Speaker of the California Assembly Robert Rivas announced his endorsement of Sam Liccardo for Congress in California’s 16th District. This comes on the heels of news that eight of Assemblymember Evan Low’s current and former Assembly colleagues endorsed Sam Liccardo. This further bolsters Liccardo after polling shows Liccardo with a +17% lead on an uninformed ballot.
“I’ve had the opportunity to get to know both candidates in this race,” Rivas said. “Sam Liccardo is the obvious choice. His record is proof he can work across the aisle and deliver results for his constituents in a divided legislature — Sam shows up. Whether it’s taking on big oil, lowering the cost of living, or reducing homelessness, I trust Sam to get it done.”
In his primary campaign, Low did not earn the endorsement of a single one of his colleagues.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of Speaker Rivas,” Liccardo said.” He has been a champion for affordable housing, for farmworkers’ rights, and for protecting our environment. I look forward to working with him to deliver results for Californians, whether it’s lowering costs, reducing homelessness, or fighting climate change.”
Liccardo is endorsed by the four largest news dailies in the region — the San Francisco Chronicle, the Mercury News, the Palo Alto Daily Post, and the San Mateo Daily Journal — more than a dozen current members of Congress, the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, California Environmental Voters, 350 Bay Area Action, the New Democrat Coalition, CHC BOLD PAC, NorCal Carpenters Union, Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), Defend the Vote, California High School Democrats, Latino Victory Fund and more than 120 local elected officials.
