Following A Commanding 1st Place Finish In The March 5th Primary, The Former San Jose Mayor’s Campaign Continues To Roll
San Jose, CA – Today, Former San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo’s campaign for Congress announced it had raised more than $1,000,000 in the first quarter filing of 2024. Since placing first among 11 candidates in the March 5th primary election, Liccardo is rolling out a slate of new federal, state, and local endorsements as he seeks to replace retiring Congresswoman Anna Eshoo in California’s 16th District. While it remains unclear who will get the unenviable task of facing Liccardo in the General Election–only 5 votes separate the current 2nd and 3rd place finishers–Liccardo continues to expand a broad coalition of grassroots supporters who propelled him out of a crowded primary field and into a dominant position for November.
“On March 5th, voters overwhelmingly voiced their support for Sam, and the momentum has not stopped,” said Josiah Myers-Lipton, Liccardo Campaign Coordinator. “Sam’s record of reducing homelessness, taking on utility companies, creating more affordable housing, tackling climate change, and lowering costs, is desperately needed in Washington, and we are humbled by the outpouring of support.”
Liccardo has been endorsed by The Mercury News, The San Francisco Chronicle, the Nor Cal Carpenters Union, the political action committee of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (BOLD PAC), Everytown for Gun Safety, J Street, California High School Democrats, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, and Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone. He has more recently announced endorsements from former Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Linda Sánchez (CA38), Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán (CA44), Congressman Robert Garcia (CA42), Congressman Lou Correa (CA46), Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA29), and California Controller Malia Cohen. He fought PG&E’s massive rate hikes, worked with neighbors and environmentalists to defeat billionaire developers to protect our Valley’s hillsides and open spaces, and battled the gun lobby to enact the nation’s most innovative gun violence prevention measures.
